3. Visual Storytelling

Recommended for children 7 – 12 years, who take joy in drawing, stories and know how to read and write (for groups of max.15 children/workshop).

Children are invited to create stories, just like in comic books. Their imagination and curiosity are the main ingredients in a creative exercise of expression through images, forms and texts, guided by two experts in comics, writing and acting.

Children will work in groups to create a small comic book project and learn about the power of an image to convey messages through discussion and analysis. They will understand how images are constructed and how they can be used to tell a story. Last but not least, they will be encouraged to freely express themselves.

Duration: 2h30’ (with a break)
Necessary materials: a video projector/screen, crayons, A4 white paper.

4.  For Parents: My Child Is Online

As children become engaged in online activities from an increasingly younger age, parents have to adapt to this new situation. They begin to wonder about the time children spend in front of the screen and online. Questions like ‘What is my child doing online? What is (s)he playing? How can I protect her/him from the dangers online? How much screen time is recommended? often remain unanswered and cause panic among parents.

At the workshop, parents will discuss the questions above. They will discover active parental mediation strategies, which help them guide their children in the online world, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of using parental control tools.

Duration: 2 hours (Maximum 15 participants)
Necessary materials:  a video projector/screen, PC speakers, participants’ own devices with online access (laptop/tablet/smartphone).
